Ankarafantsika National Park is located in the Boeny region of northwest Madagascar, covering a landscape of dry deciduous forests, lakes, and savannah. The park spans over 135,000 hectares and features a remarkable range of biodiversity, including many endemic species such as the Coquerel's sifaka and the Madagascan fish eagle. Dominated by dense dry forest interspersed with open patches and several lakes like Lake Ravelobe, the terrain supports rare flora and fauna not found elsewhere. The park was established in 1998 to protect these unique ecosystems and important watersheds. Visitors to Ankarafantsika can explore walking trails that traverse forest and lakeside environments and engage in birdwatching to spot over 120 bird species, many of which are Malagasy endemics. The park also supports reptiles, amphibians, and diverse mammals, including the threatened Madagascan giant jumping rat.
